What makes the Keys leg different.
This is the longest of our in-state Keys lanes, and the routing matters. From Tampa Bay there are two realistic approaches — down I-75 and across Alligator Alley, or the Turnpike through Central Florida. Traffic, season and the specific Keys destination decide which one makes sense on a given week.
It’s also the most seasonal route we run. Tampa Bay and the Keys share a snowbird population that moves in a fairly predictable rhythm: south in late autumn, north again in spring. Both directions get busy at once, which is worth knowing when you book.
The Keys portion is identical to every other lane — 113 miles of two-lane road and 42 bridges, with no alternate route. That’s the part most Gulf Coast carriers underestimate, and the part we handle daily.
A season lane, in both directions.
Tampa and the Keys trade residents twice a year. Knowing that calendar is most of what makes this route run smoothly.
Book around the turn
Late autumn and early spring are when this lane fills. Two or three weeks’ notice makes a real difference to your date.
Round trips planned together
If you move a vehicle south each winter and back each spring, we can schedule both ends at once.
Door-to-door, no terminals
Pickup at your Gulf Coast address, delivery at your Keys address. Nothing sits at a depot in between.
When to book this route.
The Keys run on a calendar most mainland carriers never learn. Here’s what actually affects your date.
Season
Peak in both directions. This lane books out further than the others — earlier notice helps.
Hurricane season
Storm activity can close the Overseas Highway outright. We reschedule rather than run a load into a closure.
Lobster mini-season
US-1 becomes very slow for two days. Best avoided for delivery timing.
