How to Prepare Your Car for Shipping to the Florida Keys

How to Prepare Your Car for Shipping to the Florida Keys

A 15-minute checklist that makes pickup and delivery painless.

Before pickup

  1. Wash it. A clean car makes the inspection accurate.
  2. Take dated photos of all sides, the roof and the odometer.
  3. Leave about a quarter tank. Enough to load and unload, not extra weight.
  4. Remove personal items and loose accessories like bike racks and toll transponders.
  5. Check for leaks and let us know about any mechanical quirks.
  6. Disable alarms or explain how to turn them off.
  7. Fold mirrors and retract antennas.

Paperwork

Have the keys, your registration and a phone number for whoever will meet the driver at each end. Dealers and auctions may need a release or gate pass.

Keys-specific tips

  • Choose a hand-off spot a full-size carrier can reach; narrow canal streets and low trees are common.
  • In summer and fall, keep an eye on tropical weather — we will reach out if timing needs to move.
  • Salt air is tough on paint; consider enclosed transport for special cars.

At delivery

Walk around the car with the driver, compare to your photos and note anything on the inspection report before signing.

Paying for your transport

Every carrier accepts COD, but not every carrier takes billed payments, so paying on delivery lets us line up the best carrier for your route. Routes leaving the Keys may sometimes need a split payment; we will tell you up front if yours does.
